I just found out that my nikon d80 is not capable of the auto focus using a macro lens 105mm. Is this a big deal, should I go with a different macro lens or do most people use manual focus while taking macro shots?
The 105 is a beautiful lens. I have one in my Camera kit all the time, it is an Old AIs lens, not auto focus, don't need it the subjects that you would use a Macro lens for don't move that much and manual focus will give you the best control over the situation that needs photographing.
Good Luck and enjoy
No DSLR will do that … only the little point and shoot cameras have that feature.
Think of the D80 and other DSLR cameras as a 35mm SLR that has a sensor instead of film … that should help you understand the concept of those cameras
